Great River Park & Mortensen Riverfront Plaza
National Dance Day is observed every year on the last Saturday in July. This year, celebrate it in our parks on both sides of the river.
Great River Park:
12 - 2 pm: Try square dancing, led by Connecticut caller Bill Mager
2 - 4:30 pm: Enjoy performances by local square dancing groups, led by national square dance caller Jet Roberts
Mortensen Riverfront Plaza:
4:30 - 5 pm: Join the cast of Breakdancing Shakespeare: Twelfth Night as they give you a sneak peek of their upcoming performances at Hartford Stage. Cast members will demonstrate some classic breakdance moves after the performance. One of Shakespeare’s most raucous comedies filled with mistaken identities and cunning tricks, Twelfth Night tells the story of love’s triumph over all our best intentions. The cast of Breakdancing Shakespeare will create a modern hip-hop telling of this 400-year-old story complete with Shakespeare’s original text and contemporary music/dance.
5:00 - 5:45 pm: Learn the official National Dance Day routine, taught by instructors from The Dance Collective
5:45 pm: Take the stage and perform the National Dance Day routine
6 - 6:30: Bring the kids down for a contemporary dance class on our stage while you settle in for The Dance Collective / Waves
7 - 8:30 pm: The Dance Collective / Waves
