Adventure Program Components
Your customized program at Riverside Park will reflect the skill-levels and goals of your individual group, with the following components integrated into your learning experience:
1. Cooperative Games
Any number of participants can join in fun and inclusive activities that provide new and unique twists to well-known games.
2. Group Initiatives
By offering a distinct problem or series of problems for the group to solve, group initiatives develop communication, creativity and group consensus by providing rules/parameters for guidance and the use of certain resources or props to help the group reach its goal.
3. Low Challenge Course Elements
With structures made of wood, rope, wire, or a combination of elements, the group must rely on the resources and skills gained by working together to overcome real physical challenges from obstacle courses.
4. High Challenge Course Elements
Challenging perceived limits, spurring trust and inspiring commitment, these exciting challenges literally take individuals or pairs off the ground and into the “vertical realm” of our daunting ropes course.
5. Dragon Boats
This team-oriented activity is all about fun, as 22 paddlers join forces to make the 44-foot long boat roar down the river!
6. Orienteering
Orienteering is a sport of Scandinavian origin. It involves the use of a detailed topographic map to find one’s way. The objective is to locate fairly easy-to-find markers in the woods with the aid of a map and, if you like, a compass. The challenge of orienteering comes from participants not knowing ahead of time the markers’ locations. The test lies in determining the best routes between marker locations, and in the sport’s competitive form, in finding all these checkpoints (called controls) in the least possible time. Orienteering not only improves knowledge of geography and practical navigation, it enhances physical and mental fitness as well. It truly is an activity for people of all ages and abilities.
7. Kayaking
We are pleased to be offering Kayaking as an optional part of your day on our challenge course!
Intro to Kayak and Kayak Touring Techniques classes as well as Guided Evening Paddles on the Connecticut River are available to the general public outside of Riverfront Adventure. Click here to access website for more information.
8. Time for Reflection
After overcoming challenges and working hard at team building, what better reward awaits your group than a cold drink and evening barbeque on the deck of the Greater Hartford Jaycees Community Boathouse. Relaxing in the quiet as the sun sets over the Connecticut River your team will savor their day of learning and accomplishment.
