Riverfront Adventure Program & Challenge Course

image

The Riverfront Adventure Program and Challenge Course, sometimes referred to as a ropes course, is located in beautiful Riverside Park, just outside of downtown Hartford.  With the picturesque Connecticut River as a backdrop, our experiential programs and challenge course present your group with the opportunity to apply teamwork, trust and cooperation in a unique tranquil setting.

Riverfront Adventure has 19 years of team training experience providing the area’s best corporate and group team building programs.

Our consultative approach has developed winning programs for hundreds of organizations—from large corporations to small businesses and church groups.  A successful day on our course results from the way we customize each program to meet the needs of your group.

Our customized team building programs are designed to foster trust, teamwork and connection among your people.  Riverfront Adventure is your source for a unique team building and motivational training experience.

A ropes course or challenge course is a challenging outdoor personal development and team building activity which usually consists of high and/or low elements. Low elements take place on the ground or only a few feet above the ground. High elements are usually constructed in trees or made of utility poles and may require a belay for safety.  Our program also utilizes a climbing tower.

Adventure Program Components

Your customized program at Riverside Park will reflect the skill-levels and goals of your individual group, with the following components integrated into your learning experience:

1. Cooperative Games

Any number of participants can join in fun and inclusive activities that provide new and unique twists to well-known games.

2. Group Initiatives

By offering a distinct problem or series of problems for the group to solve, group initiatives develop communication, creativity and group consensus by providing rules/parameters for guidance and the use of certain resources or props to help the group reach its goal.

3. Low Challenge Course Elements

With structures made of wood, rope, wire, or a combination of elements, the group must rely on the resources and skills gained by working together to overcome real physical challenges from obstacle courses.

4. High Challenge Course Elements

Challenging perceived limits, spurring trust and inspiring commitment, these exciting challenges literally take individuals or pairs off the ground and into the “vertical realm” of our daunting ropes course.

5. Dragon Boats

This team-oriented activity is all about fun, as 22 paddlers join forces to make the 44-foot long boat roar down the river!

6. Orienteering
Orienteering is a sport of Scandinavian origin.  It involves the use of a detailed topographic map to find one’s way. The objective is to locate fairly easy-to-find markers in the woods with the aid of a map and, if you like, a compass. The challenge of orienteering comes from participants not knowing ahead of time the markers’ locations.  The test lies in determining the best routes between marker locations, and in the sport’s competitive form, in finding all these checkpoints (called controls) in the least possible time. Orienteering not only improves knowledge of geography and practical navigation, it enhances physical and mental fitness as well. It truly is an activity for people of all ages and abilities.

7. Kayaking

We are pleased to be offering Kayaking as an optional part of your day on our challenge course!

Intro to Kayak and Kayak Touring Techniques classes as well as Guided Evening Paddles on the Connecticut River are available to the general public outside of Riverfront Adventure.  Click here to access website for more information.

8. Time for Reflection

After overcoming challenges and working hard at team building, what better reward awaits your group than a cold drink and evening barbeque on the deck of the Greater Hartford Jaycees Community Boathouse. Relaxing in the quiet as the sun sets over the Connecticut River your team will savor their day of learning and accomplishment.

Read what our clients had to say about us….

You and your folks did a terrific job with our kids once again this year. Thanks for working with us on the TRC program.
Patricia A. Grondin, Kelly Middle School Annex

This is a long overdue note to say THANKS for a great afternoon led by your great guy Al.  I facilitated the morning part of the retreat for the folks from HOYS (Hartford Office of Youth Services), and the afternoon was a perfect continuation of the team-building and self-confidence that we focused on in the morning.  I was told me what a great job you and your team offer. Now I believe it myself. Al was a spectacular leader: clear, confident without being bossy, and encouraging to all of us.  I look forward to more collaboration with you. I am New Haven-based, but often do work with groups around Connecticut and the rest of New England. It would be wonderful to team with you again.
Millie Grenough, President, Grenough LLC

Thank you so much for once again going out of your way to provide a great experience for our staff and loaned executives. It was a fantastic day and we are so pleased with your staff and the quality of the activities. You all do a great job. Please pass on my thanks to all involved.
Kathryn Liss, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut

On behalf of the ITLP I wanted to thank you for helping us set up the ropes course event and making it the success it was! Everyone had a great time and there’s already talk about planning another event for next year (except we want to do it in the warmer months). grin
Tamara Highsmith, Corporate Applications

I cannot tell you how much this experience means to me, the other faculty and our students each year and how much we all get out of it.  The facilitators were wonderful as always.  I think they connect a bit more with us each year as they come to know us better. Please, please, pass on our sincere thank you to them.  It is good work that you do for sure, and we are all better off because of it. If you should need anything, do not hesitate to ask.
Sincerely, Karen Breda PhD, RN, University of Hartford

Once again thank you for an incredible experience at River Front Recapture.  Your staff was incredible and the students truly enjoyed themselves.  We look forward to working with you next year.
Always, Antonella, CREC

Just wanted to send you a quick note thanking you for stopping by.  It was a pleasure to meet you and show you our new place.  Thank you so much for your insight.  I look forward to working with you and Riverfront Recapture in the future.  Keep in touch.
Thanks Again, Emily, GHYMCA
