Youth Rowing
REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER PROGRAMS AND YOUTH CAMP REGISTRATION IS OPEN. REGISTRATION FOR FALL ROWING OPENING SOON
High-school-aged students from all over the Greater Hartford area, from Middletown to Mansfield and Bristol to Longmeadow, MA, participate in Beginning, Intermediate and Experienced classes, on our Boy’s and Girl’s Racing Teams, and at our Day Camp instructed by College Coaches.

Students from over 20 different high schools (including Hartford’s Capital Preparatory Magnet School and the Watkinson School; East Hartford’s CIBA and EHHS; West Hartford’s Hall and Northwest Catholic) learn how to row, improve their rowing, and race! Visit Riverfront’s High School Rowing Facebook Page.
Two types of rowing classes are offered, Sweep and Sculling:
Sweep Rowing Classes
Sweep classes are taught in an eight-person training barge and in 60’ long, eight-person boats that are steered by people called coxswains. Each rower has one 12’ oar, and oars alternate on opposite sides of the boat. No previous experience necessary for beginner classes. Click here for information on Sweep Rowing.
Sculling Classes Sculling is a type of rowing where each person uses two 10’ oars and steers himself in a 17-25’ long boat. Beginners learn in stable one-, two-, or four-person training boats. No previous experience necessary for beginner classes. Click here for information on Sculling.
